Teenager wins trampoline gold

Teenager Emma Smith from Widnes, who recently won gold at the British Trampoline Championships in Birmingham, has been nominated for the Sporting Champion of the Year in the Trinity Mirror-Scottish Power Your Champion awards.

She also landed a bronze medal at the Trampoline World Cup in Spain earlier this year to help achieve a record breaking year for herself.

She was the highest-achieving European girl at the event and exceeded all pre-competition expectations by taking the podium position.

Emma was quoted as saying " I didn’t expect to pick up a medal. I just turned up and wanted to stay on the trampoline."

"It feels pretty amazing considering I finished behind two Chinese girls who are the best in the world.Everyone says it’s a really big achievement for me because I finished behind the world champion and the Olympic champion."

She represented Great Britain at both junior and senior level for the trampoline for three years but this competition was the biggest competition she had ever entered.

Next is the World Trampoline Championships in Met next month and then trials begin for the London 2012 Olympics.
